In 1939, due to lack of evidence, Reginald Innes Pocock accepted that other proposed subspecies, ''Panthera onca arizonensis'', ''Panthera onca centralis'', ''Panthera onca goldmani'', and ''Panthera onca veraecrucis'', were the same subspecies as ''Panthera onca hernandesii''.
